BMX Tricks - The Exciting World Of Sport Entertainment
BMX riding is a popular extreme sporting activity nowadays and the most sorted in any BMX event are the innumerable BMX tricks performed by the participants. This form of cycling is considered one of the most difficult in the extreme sports category.
The BMX bikes are designed for solidity and resistance and for easy maneuver, which makes them heavier than other bikes. Mostly, these bikes come with 20-inch wheels unlike ordinary bikes, which have larger wheels. Also, BMX bikes have special features to allow for 360 degree turnings of the steering wheel.
Origins of BMX
BMX was founded by Scot Breithaupt in the late 1960s in California. Though the sport was popular, the BMX specific bike was constructed and manufactured only in the middle of the decade. Bob Haro is the person credited with merging BMX with skateboarding tricks.
The various tricks in BMX riding
There are a few basic tricks included in BMX riding but newer tricks are emerging constantly. We can roughly divide the tricks under four broad headings, like:
Base tricks include:
1. 'Bunny-hop' done by pulling the handlebars back and then pushing forward while lifting off ground.
2. 'Grind', where the bike slides on a ledge without the use of wheels.
3. 'Fakie' by riding backward.
4. 'Manual' done with front wheel in the air.
5. 'Wall ride' by riding along a vertical wall.
6. 'Endo', where only the back wheel is raised.
Grind tricks include:
1. 'Feeble grind' with front wheel grinding and back one rolling.
2. 'Smith grind' opposite of feeble grind.
3. 'Double peg grind' by grinding with both pegs.
4. 'Icepick grind' by grinding with only rear peg.
5. 'Toothpick grind' by grinding with only front peg.
6. 'Crooked grind' by grinding with opposite pegs on opposite sides.
7. 'Pedal grind'by grinding with pedals.
8. 'Luc-E-Grind' by grinding with pedal and rear peg
9. 'Magic carpet grind' by grinding with front peg and pedal
Air tricks include X-Up, One hander no handers, one footer no footer, Seatgrab, Tiregrab, Backflip, Tabletop, Turndown, Lookback, Barspin, Tailwhip, Can-Can and Superman to name a few.
Lip Tricks include Fufanu, Abubaca, Stall, Sprocket Stall, Disaster, Ice pick, Nosepick, Toothpick and tailtap.
Safety Equipment for BMX riding
If you have a BMX bike, then learning some easy tricks is recommended. However, always remember that BMX is an extreme form of sporting activity and there is a good chance of getting seriously hurt. So get some safety equipment ready and never go around without them. The basic safety equipments should include a good helmet to prevent head injury if you fall off while doing even easy tricks. Also elbow and knee protectors are necessary during practice sessions. These equipments can be found by searching on e-bay or other BMX websites.
