Street/dirt BMX Bikes – Special Features for Safe Racing

Street/dirt BMX bikes are meant for road racing and these come in a wide range of varieties. Some of these unique models are Kids BMX Bikes, Freestyle BMX Bikes, UMF BMX bikes, FreeAgent BMX bikes, Dawes BMX bikes and Scorpion BMX bikes. The street or dirt bikes usually have a small and sturdy frame, a single gear and 20-24 inches wheel that can absorb the shock of jerks and jumps of racing.

Because of its single gear, street BMX bikes require lesser maintenance. These bicycles are perfect for doing freestyle Dirt Jumps and aerial tricks. Riders use ramps for a stunning aerial performance. The noticeably longer frame, the somewhat fatter tires, the absence of trocknuts and handlebars with a steeper rise in these bikes make them perfect for free maneuvering off the ground.

Considerations for extra safety while racing on a dirt BMX

Since street racing and performance of air tricks are risky ventures, the street BMX are provided with extra safety features not found in traditional bicycles. The brakes are specially designed and accompanied by a headset that keeps the front cable brake from tangling with the handlebar tube when you give it a 360-degree spin.

To keep you safe and free from injuries, your BMX must be provided with padding on the handlebar crossbar, frames top tube and stem. You can always buy the pads and get them installed on your racing BMX. You should make it a point to remove the chain guards, kickstand, fenders and reflector bracket. Always lubricate the moving parts, inflate the tires and check the functionality of your brakes before hitting the street.
